Color by Nature's Studio
A wool studio, where sheep have names, colors are natural and fiber is wonderful.
About us

My Sheep, My Girls
This started as a spinning project that exploded!  I learned to spin as an adult (a childhood dream), but that didn't seem to be quite enough for me.  I needed to spin my own wool, so I bought 5 ewes at a sale barn.  I learned all about buying culled sheep (not a good experience).  Next purchase, was from a friend, that raised sheep for their fiber.  That added 3 more girls to my collection, and I was on my way.  I have learned a lot from those first years.  My flock has grown.  Now my hobby?? habit??? has really gone crazy!  I can not spin up all the wool my beautiful girls produce.  I have had to move on to the next step.  I can't get rid of all my girls.... so I need to sell their wool.

That is why Color by Nature's Studio got started.  The name was chosen because I have natural colored sheep, and I use natural dyes.  Color that is found in nature, with plants from nature that I collect locally or that I purchase.

My Girls are raised as pets, not like feed lot animals.  They are happy, frolicking girls that eat lush green grass until it freezes, and beautiful hay during the long winter.  Each of my girls has a name and ID ear tag number, but I know most of them by their name not number.

The Girls Wool

My girls, are a mix of many different breeds.  I have intentionally crossed them for soft and long fibers.  I think I have come up with a wonderful combination of good traits.  Some of the breeds that I have are: ramboulett, merino, cormo, finn, icelandic, blue faced leicester & borderluster.  Their wool comes in many colors, from white, cream, tan, brown, gray, dark gray and black.  The colors that the wool doesn't come in by nature, I dye with dyes that are made from nature.  Some of the natural vegetation that I use, is purchased from suppliers, such as indigo, osage orange, madder root, log wood, brazil wood.  Some other dyes that I use, I collect from my area, such as, golden rod, onion skins, thistles, cotton wood and what ever else I can find to make a dye from.

I have my own fiber processing mill to turn this beautifully colored wool into wonderful fiber to spin.  If spinning is not your thing.... there is hand spun yarn for you to make into your own wonderful treasure.
