Color by Nature's Studio is a home based business, on the farm.  Home raised, colored sheep produce all the wool used in my dye pots.  Natural dyes are used for all the dying that is done. 

Each of my sheep (my girls) have a name and personality.  My girls all have distinct pedigrees.  I intentionally cross the girls with different breeds of boys.  As a result, I get some of all the good parts of each breed.  My requirements are for softness first, color second and long fiber, third.  As a result, I have many wool types to chose from. 

 

For the colors that do not show up in nature with my girls fleeces, I dye with dyes that are made from vegetable mater found in nature.  Some of the dye materials are: osage orange, brazil wood, madder root, indigo, golden rod, sunflowers, onion skins, walnut hulls, carrot tops and what ever else I can find that will give color.
